"Go Back Megan!"

If you've ever been around Megan for any length of time, you will notice that she LOVES attention. We think this is partly due to her previous life before we found her at the shelter. It was obvious when we got her that she was starved for affection and we have done our best to shower her with as much love as we can. That being said, her need for attention can get pretty old. So John and I will say "Go to bed Megan" or "Get back Megan" when we are done petting her, but she is begging for more. Jack has picked up this phrase and modified it slightly. When Megan starts sniffing around for whatever food Jack has in his hand, we hear him say "Go back Megan!" Actually, it sounds more like "Go ba Degan!" It is pretty funny because he says it with such gusto. Enjoy!

Wow! What a couple of weeks this has been! Between my back problems, Jack's strep throat, and John's stomach bug, we have been in "head down survival mode" for two weeks! But we are all better now and life is returning to normal. Most of the garden has been pulled up except my pride and joy for the summer . . . my first watermelon!

I planted one last year, but the weed eater chopped it off before it had a chance to grow. This year, with my new gravel paths, it has a fighting chance. The watermelon, herbs, green beans, and cucumbers are all that is left of Garden 2009. In the encouraging words of my mother, "Paige, it's hard to grow children and plants at the same time." She is exactly right. Jack, however, thoroughly enjoyed the garden . . . brown leaves and all! So I am labelling it as an overall success.

Jack is saying lots of words now that we can understand, but his favorite way to talk is still to string lots of words together that no one is able to translate. Your guess is as good as ours on what he is trying to say in the video below. He has done this about half a dozen times now . . . he sits down in the same spot on the floor, turns to John, and just starts talking. We call it "having a conference with Dad."

Helping Out

Jack loves to help out with whatever John and I are doing. If John is working on a project using tools, Jack is all about handing him anything he can find in hopes that it was what Dad was looking for. He loves to pick up sticks in the yard, put laundry in the basket, and pick up his shoes. I'm pretty sure this is normal toddler behavior, but I sure feel lucky to have such a helpful little buddy.

Zoo Pictures

What was Jack's Favorite Animal at the Zoo?

Out of all of the exotic and rare animals that can be found at the Memphis zoo (penguins, pandas, elephants, giraffes, polar bears, bald eagles, etc.) his favorite was the farm cow! Go figure.

The polar bear was the runner up.

Coca-Cola

So while John was driving to Oxford for his race and while I was pricing inventory at our Birmingham booth, Jack had convinced his aunts and grandfather to fill up his sippy cup with Coke. He was clearly pleased.
