Wow! What a couple of weeks this has been! Between my back problems, Jack's strep throat, and John's stomach bug, we have been in "head down survival mode" for two weeks! But we are all better now and life is returning to normal. Most of the garden has been pulled up except my pride and joy for the summer . . . my first watermelon!

I planted one last year, but the weed eater chopped it off before it had a chance to grow. This year, with my new gravel paths, it has a fighting chance. The watermelon, herbs, green beans, and cucumbers are all that is left of Garden 2009. In the encouraging words of my mother, "Paige, it's hard to grow children and plants at the same time." She is exactly right. Jack, however, thoroughly enjoyed the garden . . . brown leaves and all! So I am labelling it as an overall success.

Jack is saying lots of words now that we can understand, but his favorite way to talk is still to string lots of words together that no one is able to translate. Your guess is as good as ours on what he is trying to say in the video below. He has done this about half a dozen times now . . . he sits down in the same spot on the floor, turns to John, and just starts talking. We call it "having a conference with Dad."
